Evaldo Braga, in a meteoric career, from his first appearance in the media until his tragic and precocious death to the twenty-five years, in the part of BR-040 road that links Juiz de Fora to Rio de Janeiro, conquered a faithful legion of fans. Today orphans of the idol, they remember him with love and still sing his songs.

The historical ransom of this idol of the Brazilian music is justified by a still sustained popularity, even though dead and little reminded by the media. He is a musical phenomenon.

Sustained by pirate tapes informal trade, old discs stores and with two CD's thrown by a small stamp, he has a public constituted in an eclectic way and including from professionals of the night, cab drivers, maidservants, bohemians even musicians and intellectuals.


If was alive, Evaldo Braga would complete years on September 28, . He is not more between us, but his work is. Died prematurely by the 25 years of age in an car accident, he had existence, work and death marked by tragedy.

Born in the city of "Campos dos Goytacazes", state of Rio de Janeiro, he was created in SAM (posterior Funabem - Febem). He has never met his parents. Childhood similar to thousands of another brazilian ones. His will was his difference.

The fame desire always accompanied him. Blanket, still in Funabem, a dispute with a colleague: one said that will be a famous singer. Another, that will be a famous soccer player. That colleague was Dario Chest of Steel, Dadá Maravilha (Amazind Dadá).

His evidence transformed his past life history in a legend, that provided Evaldo a very different experience than the one that he already knew. On that moment there were lots of mothers in his life. Wherever he passed, new progenitors appeared. They sought him in public presentations. Just one women that sought affected him.

Evaldo, even being a sales champion, felt insecure. He wanted recognition. That everybody accepted his success. Irritated with the critics, he complained with his "white father": - "Look at this. This guy say that I don't sing anything, isn't it? Tell him to see how many disks I'm selling. Tell him, Assad ". Evaldo even said in a newspaper "I don't make elitist (or music for the elite?) music. I do it for those who live in the North Zone, that understands my music ".

His life and the difficulties that he faced until that moment are described in his music. "My musics are inspired, almost whole, on that time of fight and of suffering. They reflect exactly what I passed, that it is, actually, which many pass. That explains why my disks sell".

He died in the most promising year, according to himself, of his short career. In a car accident in BR-040, old BR-3, near to the municipal district of Three Rivers, in the state of Rio, Evaldo put an end to his life. He left a legion of forlorn fans. The Saint John Baptist Cemitery in the city of Rio de Janeiro, allotted. The commotion had to be contained with the support of the troop of shock of the local Military Police.

Evaldo was superticious. He didn't walk without a type of guide wound in his right hand. In the day of his death, a fan had pulled up him the such guide.
